Coggle is a concept mapping website that is in its beta form since May 2013. Coogle allows users to create a simple or advanced
concept map that includes text, external links, pictures, and graphics. Coggle produces hierarchically organized documents that resemble a branching tree and allows multiple users to collaborate and work on documents together. Coogle is a fun and easy to use web app that produces beautiful informative diagrams. Examples of how to use Coggle are found below.
One of the cool features of Coggle is that you can invite others to view and edit your mind maps . All Coggle mind maps can be downloaded as
PDF's or
PNG image files. Some other neat things you can do with Coggle are:
• Real-time collaboration
• Sharing with groups, individuals, or by private link
• View and copy previous versions
• Include images
• Include links
• Markdown text formatting
• [LaTeX] math support using MathJax
• [iOS support]
USER INTERFACE
EDUCATIONAL BENEFITS
There are many ways to use Coggle in a school setting. Concept mapping is a great way to collect and showcase ideas in the classroom. It increases participation and collaboration in a classroom and shows how things are related or connected. It also solidifies concepts already known and builds upon knowledge. One of the best things about concept mapping is it is based on a central idea and no branches have more significance then any other. In a liner format, items at the top of the list tend to have more meaning or importance then those at the bottom. Therefore mapping is less constrictive -- no idea takes precedence; therefore no idea is at the top or bottom or in the form of liner lists.
The problem with some mind-mapping tools are that even though they contain advanced features they don't have intuitive interfaces or features which in turn causes students to struggle with the process and lose the flow of the brainstorming process. In contrast, Coggle doesn't have a robust set of features, but has an intuitive user interface so that students can focus on recording ideas and brain storming rather then struggle with the formatting of their mind maps.
Common Useses:
Curriculum mapping
Class idea sharing
Project ideas
Collaboration of ideas
Sharing of ideas with others
Graphically shows connections
Advantages of concepts maps
Here are some advantages of Mapping
It clearly defines the central idea, by positioning it in the centre of the page.
It allows you to indicate clearly the relative importance of each idea.
It allows you to figure out the links among the key ideas more easily. This is particularly important for creative work such as essay writing.
It allows you to see all your basic information on one page.
As a result of the above, and because each Map will look different, it makes recall and review more efficient.
It allows you to add in new information without messy scratching out or squeezing in.
It makes it easier for you to see information in different ways, from different viewpoints, because it does not lock it into specific positions.
It allows you to see complex relationships among ideas, such as self-perpetuating systems with feedback loops, rather than forcing you to fit non-linear relationships to linear formats, before you have finished thinking about them.
It allows you to see contradictions, paradoxes, and gaps in the material -- or in your own interpretation of it -- more easily, and in this way provides a foundation for questioning, which in turn encourages discovery and creativity.
